1/18/2024 0 Comments Risk of rain artifacts help![]() ![]() Because it lets them get a god run every time, it actively encourages them to not disable it because they get used to a state of the game where things are explosive and perfect, so when they return to the base game without artifacts, things become far harder as they coasted on OP-builds and never bothered to learn how the game actually works.Īs an example, did you know that the Eclipse gamemode is almost perfectly designed to teach you how to "git gud" at the game? Each Eclipse level forces you to learn to mitigate one very specific element of the game. ![]() Many people are going to see "I can pick which items I want at no downside whatsoever, and then start playing with that artifact activated. But I wouldn't ever try to argue that "These are flawless and there's no need to make them better" either, as they are quite bad, even if I like them regardless. People can enjoy anything, even terribly designed things, and I have my own share of really shitty games and anime I love in spite of how terrible they are. Just because you personally didn't find issues with it, that doesn't mean there aren't issues. Your own experience isn't everyon else's reality. Please, point to the exact sentence where I said I was speaking for everyone everywhere, and my experience was universal. But when I look at what this game could offer players, Command having no downside prevents that possibility from happening. The devs clearly disagree with me, and this is their game so it's their choice. This game is extremely enjoyable for way more reasons than just "big damage numbers go brrrrrrrr", and Command having no downside whatsoever discourages players from learning how things work and finding that nuanced joy from manipulating and mitigating RNG. And you can argue "Then just don't use it", but that leads to the issue of requiring the player to actively and knowingly not take advantage of a system that has no penalties whatsoever. Getting an OP run can definitely be fun, but when every run is easily OP, it won't be quite as big of a "high" anymore. Like how if a store you visit always plays the same few songs on the radio, you begin to passively tune out the music and forget its even there because you have gotten so used to it. Sure it will still be fun, but it will be less enjoyable than it used to because you have gotten used to it being the standard. If every run is a godrun, then "getting a godrun" stops being as amazing as a moment. And while yes they get OP and that can be fun, it often leads to the issue of over-exposure. For some players, they will see Command's strength, see it has no downside, and start playing with it. I still personally think Artifacts should disable achievements, as it passively encourages players to not have as much fun with the game as possible.
